Not only have I had the good fortune to travel often in the past, but to have friends who have gone elsewhere as well. They and I bring back photos for me to paint. It’s not the same as sitting “in situ” but I’m not complaining!

In June I had a wonderful opportunity to join some of my Marin Cyclist friends at a bike hotel in the Piedmont area of Italy. Gary Welsh (aka “Junior”) graciously organized the bikes, guides, room rates etc. All we had to do was show up! The trip was fabulous: wake up, throw on our kits, decide a route with our happy guides, ride, eat lunch (fresh farm-to-table), ride home, drink beer, eat dinner, go to bed…repeat the next day. The weather was perfect. And get this: the hotel washed and dried our kits every evening! Our jerseys read “Bici, Vini, Vivi,” which I choose to mean “Bike, Wines, Life”! Indeed.
