What is Therapeutic Healthcare Clowning?
Through the therapeutic engagement of play and humor, the Medical Clown Project provides joy, laughter, and respite for patients and their families, while reducing fear and anxiety, ultimately increasing their strength and motivation to cope with their illnesses.
The healthcare clown connects with patients, families, and the medical team by using expressive therapy modalities such as magic, music, circus, theatre, improvisation, and puppetry as part of the healing process.
They provide services in many settings including patient rooms, intensive care units, emergency departments, as well as in hallways, waiting rooms and elevators.
